Happy Sunday 👋

Just wanted to share some money, real estate and personal updates from my corner of the world.

  1. Be careful of scammers — they can be disguised as FB friends

A Facebook friend recently tried to pitch me an investment that supposedly generates a 1% daily return and a guaranteed 20% monthly return.

You read that right — guaranteed.

Scams don't always come from random strangers anymore. Sometimes they come from people you know (or kind of know) who may genuinely believe what they're selling you.

My rule is simple — the higher the promised return with little or no risk, the more red flags should go up and the more questions you should ask.

Know what you're investing in, who regulates it, where your money is actually going and what happens when you want your money back.

During uncertain times, scams tend to pop up as people look for new places to put their money and ways to make their money grow.

Just be careful out there and please don't let "but my friend got back their money" be your due diligence.

And remember, I’m a phone call or email away if you have doubts.

  1. The disconnect in Montreal’s real estate market

There’s more inventory, prices haven't dropped significantly and buyers are getting pickier.

In August, residential sales across Greater Montreal were down 13% compared to last year while the number of properties for sale jumped 18%.

Condos are especially interesting. Listings are up 19% and they're taking an average of 62 days to sell — 12 days longer than last year.

Plexes are holding up better, but inventory is up there too.

So is Montreal real estate overpriced? Not necessarily. But we're seeing a disconnect between what some sellers expect to get and what buyers are willing to pay. And it’s been playing out since the start of 2026.

More inventory + fewer sales = buyers finally have a little more room to negotiate.

  1. Despite everything going on, markets are still having a very good 2026

I mean, think of all the headlines we’ve been through this year.

Tariffs. War. Oil prices. Inflation. Interest rates. Canada-U.S. drama.

If you only followed the news, you'd probably assume the stock market was having a terrible year.

It's not.

The TSX is up about 14.5% so far in 2026. The S&P 500 is up about 12.5%.

Heck, even the Nasdaq — despite all the drama around tech and AI — is up roughly 14%.

Another reminder that the economy, the headlines and your investment portfolio are three very different things.

Scary headlines don't automatically translate into poor investment returns.

They don't.

And if there's one money lesson worth taking away from this week, it's that staying invested is often far more important than staying glued to the news.

If what I just said sounds completely foreign to you or you still think markets and the economy are heading down the drain, book a call with me. I'll explain investing and the stock market in plain English — no jargon, no finance degree required.

What does entrepreneurship look like?

Another Friday, another conference. This time I was at Scale Up Ads at the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, diving into the world of online ads, digital marketing and sales funnels.

About 100 people were in the room and maybe a dozen were women.

There could be a lot of reasons for that, but it got me thinking about how the face of entrepreneurship is changing.

Even though we were small in number, one thing stood out to me that I’ve always known — the women in the room seemed to understand marketing and sales funnels a whole lot better than the guys.

I say this all the time — women understand what works (and what doesn't) because we listen to our customers and communities.

You know, the infamous go talk to your users (if you’ve ever been in a tech incubator, you know what I’m talking about).

Also, women know how to nurture relationships and we understand the relationship doesn’t stop at the one-off sale.

Shout out to OWNI’s Brand Strategy Lead Elaine Tsung who convinced me to attend (we’re planning a paid ad campaign in the fall).

If you were wondering why I was there, we’re planning our own paid ad campaign this fall so I guess I actually had to pay attention and learn something 😅

What’s on our mind this week?

Money? RESPs for the kids? A loved one’s estate you’ve been putting off?

Or an important financial decision you keep going back and forth on?

Reach out — you don’t need to figure it out on your own or search aimlessly online looking for answers.
